Mr Sherry Singh, CEO of Mauritius Telecom, appointed Chairman of SATA
Mr Sherry Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom, has been appointed Chairman of the Southern Africa Telecommunications Association (SATA) for 2019-2020. The passing on of the Chairmanship ceremony was held on Friday 26th April at Sofitel Mauritius L'Impérial Hotel, in Flic en Flac.
The outgoing Chairman, Mr Mabua Lesego Mabua, acknowledged Mauritius Telecom as a leader in the region. He is confident that the new Chairman, able and energetic, will take SATA to an exciting world-class level.
Mr Singh said that it is with great honour that on behalf of Mauritius Telecom he accepts the Chairmanship of SATA for 2019-2020. He thanked the outgoing Chairman, who has been instrumental in taking SATA quite a few steps forward. And thanks to his able leadership, a SATA strategic plan has been launched, for the first time.
The new Chairman's role will be to assist the board in implementing the new resolutions and help charter their course forward. He will encourage members to explore how to implement resolutions that will be adopted. He relies on SATA members to share their experiences, both successes and failures.
Mr Singh stated that the fundamental role of SATA is to promote development of ICT infrastructure to bridge digital divide. Technology by itself is important, he said, but is only useful if it creates value for people, organisations, society and the country.
The new Chairman recalled that the United Nations had identified 17 sustainable development goals out of which SATA will propose 5 resolutions. This is a unique opportunity for operators to contribute in alleviating issues of society (poverty, health and wellbeing, education, economic development) through creative use of technology.
Mr Singh declared that every Chairman should aim to leave at least one legacy behind. He announced that he is taking the commitment to create a digital sharing platform for members of SATA, whereby they can collaborate and exchange information freely.
The 39th Southern Africa Telecommunications Association (SATA) Annual Conference, hosted by Mauritius Telecom, was held at Sofitel Mauritius L'Impérial Hotel, in Flic en Flac, from 24th to 26th April.
