ITB Berlin: Mauritius awarded the ‘World’s Best Island Destination’
Mauritius was awarded the 'World's Best Island Destination' by the International Council of Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) during the Internationale Tourismus Börse (ITB) Berlin, known as the World's leading travel trade show, held from 4th to 8th March.
According to the Minister of Tourism, Anil Gayan, "it is recognition of the quality of the destination that Mauritius is. We want to continue to maintain Mauritius as the best island destination in the world. Receiving an award is not the end of the world, in fact it is the beginning of a journey that must be sustainable in the long term. Although 2019 is a year with challenges, both for aviation and for hospitality we are confident that we will be able to perform than in 2018."
Mauritius received another award from FVW Medien which is a leading travel industry magazine in Germany. In the last five years, Mauritius achieved a growth of 103% in terms of overnights concerning the German market.
Anil Gayan was also invited to participate at the ITB's Minister's round table on the topic 'Expansion of tourism infrastructure'. Ministers from five continents were present and Mauritius was representing the African continent.
ITB is a very important tourism fair for our destination. Captains of the hotel industry, airlines flying to Mauritius, tour operators, travel agents and specialized tourism journalists are present at the event. New opportunities are sought by all stakeholders in order to expand their business and this may generate more tourists coming to Mauritius.
